Random: Japanese Fitness Mag Discusses How To Play Ring Fit Properly

Ring Fit Adventure

Oof, it’s been a while since we booted up Ring Fit Adventure. Our bones have returned to their previously creaky state, and our muscles to marshmallow. But it seems like Nintendo Japan know we’ve been struggling, so they’ve just published some tips and tricks courtesy of Murata-san, from the editorial department of Tarzan, a Japanese fitness magazine.

We will note that these tips have been imperfectly transformed from Japanese to English by Google Translate, but we’ll try our best to figure out exactly what Murata is saying.

Tip One: Be humble

“If you are not confident in your fitness,” says Murata, “don’t worry.” Ring Fit Adventure asks you what your fitness level is when you start, and there’s no need to try to be impressive – it might just end in you thinking that exercise is too hard for you. “You can adjust the settings at any time,” Murata points out – so it’s in your favour to underestimate your fitness level to begin with.

Tip Two: Don’t force yourself to play every day

Although Ring Fit Adventure comes with a daily alarm feature to remind you to exercise, it’s not the only way to stay fit. Murata advises players to “keep a pace”, and not to force themselves into a daily routine, since it will feel more like a chore. With 23 Adventure Worlds, it would take a player 3 months to get through it with 30 minutes’ playtime a day – so Murata is more keen to play 2-3 times a week to get the most of the game.

Tip Three: Equipment makes a difference in real life and in the game

Prepare yourself properly for exercise – Murata recommends wearing shorts, using a yoga mat, and drinking protein shakes after playing. Likewise, in the game, he recommends buying the clothing upgrades that increase your stats and make it a little easier to play.

Tip Four: Prepare well for battles

Don’t forget about smoothies – Ring Fit Adventure’s version of health-restoring and attack-increasing potions – and make sure to pay attention to the colour-matching mechanic that deals extra damage to enemies. With multiple enemies, use attacks with a wider range, and try to take out enemies like the Matta Rays first, since they can revive fallen foes.

Tip Five: Don’t be afraid to push yourself!

Check your activity log regularly to self-evaluate, and see if you need to change the difficulty or increase the amount of time you spend on the game. But don’t forget to encourage yourself, too, says Murata – “praise yourself to the fullest!”

Have you fallen off Ring Fit too? Do these tips help at all, or were you hoping for something a little more along the lines of “input the Konami Code to get a six-pack”? Let us know below.
