Today sees the launch of a board game adaptation of Stardew Valley, the fan-favourite farming sim which has taken the indie world by storm over the last few years.
A reveal trailer (up above) gives us our first taste of the game’s look, while an official website offers a little more detail. The game is a co-op experience featuring Season cards, Villager cards, tools, items, crops, minerals, and more, all based on the video game, and has been developed by Stardew Valley creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone and Cole Medeiros, who has previously worked on the board games Web of Spies and GUBS (thanks, Eurogamer).
Stardew Valley: The Board Game is a cooperative game where players work together to restore the Valley. They accomplish this by growing crops, raising animals, expanding their farm and collecting resources from across the Valley.
By befriending the local villagers, players earn hearts that allow them to reveal hidden goals. Only by working together will they keep Joja Corporation from moving in and spoiling everything.
So choose your profession and pick up your starting tool; Stardew Valley needs you!
If you’re interested in picking this up, it’s available to buy as we speak right here for $55. It’s currently only shipping to those in the US, although efforts are being made to make it available elsewhere, too.
The game’s store page notes that this “is not a casual quick game,” warning that those looking for a short playtime might not get the most out of it. “While it is easy to play once you know the rules,” the listing says, “it’s meant to be challenging.”
